چکیده

Adolescence and emerging adulthood are developmental periods associated with increased risk taking, including alcohol substance use antisocial behaviors. Typical psychological growth from adolescence into early reflects increases in traits related to regulation (e.g., greater emotional stability less impulsivity), which typically considered protective factors against However, individuals may vary greatly their development of these characteristics. This study examines the degree heterogeneity trajectories later performance on decision-making skills battery. In this study, was assessed at age 10–12, follow-up assessments 14, 16, 19 years. At 19, we administered Youth Decision-Making Competence (DMC; Parker & Fischhoff, 2005) measure. Correlational analyses revealed that lower regulation, as 10, DMC scores. A latent class mixture model yielded three distinct trajectory classes dysregulation: (a) a Moderate-Stable group, modal demonstrated stable average regulative tendencies throughout adolescence, (b) Low-Decreasing self-regulation childhood, (c) High-Increasing low self-regulative (higher dysregulation) 10 became increasingly dysregulated adolescence. Individuals group than those groups. Our findings also reinforce past work indicates considerable individual differences intra-individual change across patterns dysregulation can impact tendencies.

Assessing adolescent decision-making competence

Behavioral decision research offers a general approach to studying cognitive aspects of decision making, as well as a platform for studying their interplay with social and affective processes. Applied to any decision, behavioral decision research involves three interrelated tasks: (a) normative analysis, identifying the expected impacts of possible choices; (b) descriptive study, characterizing...

Decision-making dysregulation in first-episode schizophrenia.

Studies with chronic schizophrenia patients have demonstrated that patients fluctuate between rigid and unpredictable responses in decision-making situations, a phenomenon which has been called dysregulation. The aim of this study was to investigate whether schizophrenia patients already display dysregulated behavior at the beginning of their illness. Thirty-two first-episode schizophrenia or s...

Individual differences in adult decision-making competence.

The authors evaluated the reliability and validity of a set of 7 behavioral decision-making tasks, measuring different aspects of the decision-making process. The tasks were administered to individuals from diverse populations. Participants showed relatively consistent performance within and across the 7 tasks, which were then aggregated into an Adult Decision-Making Competence (A-DMC) index th...

Discrete Route/Trajectory Decision Making Problems

The paper focuses on composite multistage decision making problems which are targeted to design a route/trajectory from an initial decision situation (origin) to goal (destination) decision situation(s). Automobile routing problem is considered as a basic " physical " metaphor. The problems are based on a discrete (combinatorial) operations/states " design/solving space " (e.g., digraph). The d...

Binge Drinking Trajectory and Decision-Making during Late Adolescence: Gender and Developmental Differences

Objective: Impaired affective decision-making has been consistently related to alcohol dependence. However, less is known about decision-making and binge drinking (BD) in adolescents. The main goal of this longitudinal study was to determine the association between BD and decision-making from late adolescence to early adulthood. A second aim is to assess developmental changes and performance di...
